WooCommerce product kit guide

WooCommerce product kits: fixed or configurable?

Use a fixed product kit when every customer gets the same products and quantities. Use a configurable product builder when customers must choose parts, options, or quantities.

Start with the buying decision, then check how each product must keep its stock, price, tax, shipping, and order data.

Direct comparison

Fixed kit or configurable product?

A fixed kit has one recipe set by the store. A configurable product asks the customer to build or choose the recipe.

Question Fixed product kit Configurable product
Who chooses the contents? The store owner sets every required product, exact variation, and quantity. The customer chooses from available components or options.
What happens to stock? Every required component keeps its native WooCommerce stock rules. Stock depends on the components the customer selects.
How is price calculated? Advanced Bundles Free sums each component's current price multiplied by its fixed quantity. The total may change with selected components, options, or pricing rules.
What does the order record? A bundle container plus required component lines with purchased item data. The final selected configuration and its purchased components.
Best fit Repair kits, starter packs, and standard product sets. Custom computers, cameras, gift boxes, and build-your-own products.

Three examples

Match the kit to the buying choice

The same word, “kit,” can describe two different store experiences.

Repair kit

Use a fixed kit when every order contains the same filter, gasket, and two seals.

Apparel starter kit

Use a fixed kit when the store selects one exact T-shirt variation, one cap, and one bag for every customer.

Custom computer or camera kit

Use a configurable product when the customer must choose a processor, camera body, lens, storage option, or other part.

Advanced Bundles Free

Build one fixed kit from existing products

Choose simple products or exact existing variations, set fixed positive whole-number quantities, then publish the bundle. Customers add the complete kit with one action.

Each component keeps its native stock, tax, shipping, refund, and order data. The bundle total uses the current component prices.

Test stock, pricing, and orders

A product kit affects several WooCommerce systems, even when setup looks simple.

Stock

WooCommerce must have enough combined stock for every required component across the whole cart. Test duplicate kits, backorders, and checkout revalidation.

Pricing

Advanced Bundles Free sums current component prices and fixed quantities. Taxes, coupons, and shipping continue to use native component data.

Orders and refunds

Component lines preserve purchased names, SKUs, quantities, totals, and tax. Test full and partial refunds plus stock restoration on staging.

WooCommerce product kit questions

Answers describe Advanced Bundles Free and common WooCommerce product-kit choices.

What is a WooCommerce product kit?

A product kit sells several products together. A fixed kit always contains the same required items. A configurable kit lets customers choose some or all of its contents.

Can a fixed product kit include variations?

Yes. Advanced Bundles Free can include an exact existing variation selected by the store owner. Customers cannot switch that variation inside the kit.

Does a product kit use component stock?

Advanced Bundles Free keeps WooCommerce stock rules on every required component and checks the combined quantity needed across the cart.

Can customers build their own kit with Free?

No. Free uses fixed required products or exact variations and fixed quantities. It does not include choices, optional items, ranges, or mix-and-match kits.

Can I set one fixed price for the whole kit?

No. Free totals the current price of every component multiplied by its fixed quantity. It does not add a separate fixed bundle price or bundle-specific discount.

Need the same products in every kit?

Download Advanced Bundles Free, follow the setup guide, and test the complete kit flow on a staging site.
